"Analysing the legal issues raised by digital technology in the areas of business law, contract and tort law"

The e-Commerce research unit of the CRIDS analyses the legal issues raised by digital technology in the areas of business law, contract and tort law (contracts and liability).
The researchers in the e-Commerce unit have recognised expertise in Belgium and internationally on all questions related to IT contracts, online advertising, the conclusion and proof of online contracts as on the liability of online platforms and intermediaries (in particular internet operators). The research also focuses on more specific topics such as consumer protection , trust services (signatures, stamps, timestamping, electronic archiving), electronic payments (in connection with PSD2) or electronic invoicing. Several PHD thesis have been conducted on some of these areas or are currently underway.
In close collaboration with researchers from other units of the CRIDS and NADI, the researchers frequently publish articles and take part in national or international conferences where the most recent ideas and topics are put forward. Particular areas of focus are collaborative economy platforms, Big Data, digital content and services, AI or blockchain.
