Directions

Below you will find all you need to know to access the University of Namur.

BY TRAIN

As the University campus is no more than 10' on foot from the main station, the train is certainly the best way to get to our campus.

Namur is served by quite a lot of train lines. Just take a look at the map of the Belgian Railways. The main lines come from Brussels, Liège, Tournai, Koln, Luxemburg and Paris.

There is now one straight and easy connection to Paris with the TGV (High Speed Train): outward Namur 7:29 AM -> Paris 9:44 AM, inward Paris 19:13 PM -> Namur 21:38 PM. Other frequent TGV rides are via Brussels (add an extra hour to get from Brussels to Namur by train, which is almost as fast as the direct line anyway).

Trains commute between Brussels and Namur twice an hour. Same from Liège, Charleroi and Mons.

Taxis are also available in front of the station, in case you have to reach an hotel or a place outside the city center.

For complete journey planning (timetable and fares) visit the belgian national railways web site (SNCB).

BY BUS

If you live in the area surrounding Namur, about twenty bus lines (some of which being Express such as the line 56 from Couvin) can drop you very near the campus or at the train station square. In town, about ten urban lines with frequent journeys allow you to travel within the city very easily.

The regional public transport authority TEC has a web site that allows you to gather information about timetables and fares.

BY PLANE

If you arrive at Brussels International Airport (Zaventem), you can easily reach the train station after exiting the customs : take a rolling staircase at your left and go down to the train station.

Take any train, change at Brussels North for a train to Namur (see national railways web site). There are 3 trains per hour, the schedule repeats hourly until 23h.The fare is 9,1 € for a single ticket (free for children under 12).

If you are arriving from Charleroi airport. At the Ryanair counter in Charleroi airport you can buy a ticket valid for any Belgian destination for 10,50 €. This ticket covers a journey in a TEC bus (from the airport to Charleroi-Sud train station) and a train journey (from Charleroi-Sud to any station in Belgium).

If you are going to Charleroi airport, ask for ticket code C61 at the train station. With this ticket, you can take the train to Charleroi-Sud station and then the TEC bus (line A – platform 2) from the station to the airport (Gosselies).

BY CAR

University parkings are only for staff members. One of them (located rue Henri Lemaître) is accessible if you have a guest card.

Otherwise you will have to park in the city (neither free nor cheap). For those interested, the city of Namur has opened a park and ride area along the river Meuse. You can leave your car over there and take a bus shuttle to the center of the city (10' ride for only 1.5 € all inclusive !).

From the motorway E411 (Brussels-Luxemburg)

  • Leave the E411 at exit number 14 "Bouge-Namur".
  • Drive 2.5 km to "Namur".
  • Leave your car at the P+R area and take the bus (if you wish)
  • Otherwise pass under the rail bridge, turn right (to "Gare").
  • Follow the direction of "Charleroi"
  • Drive under the Ministry of Transport alongside the railway station
  • Carry on till you reach the Park Louise-Marie (see the map)

For those who have been invited and got their parking sticker:

  • Follow the main road straight on (way to Charleroi)
  • Take the next tunnel and cross the bridge over the river Sambre
  • Carry on until you reach Place Wiertz (the square with a roundabout and a statue of King Leopold II)
  • Take the round-about and leave it to the left (Avenue Reine Astrid)
  • Take the first one-way street on the left again (Rue Henri Lemaître)
  • Carry on till you see the UNamur's guests parking
  • Leave your car over there...
  • Take a walk and cross the bridge again
  • Now you have reached our Campus (see the map)

BY BIKE

If you find yourself within 5 kms from the University, then riding a bike might be a friendly, cost-effective and stress-saving way of reaching us. Especially if you stay nearby the rivers that cross Namur. The Meuse and the Sambre have their own cycling paths alongside. Moreover, one can easily avoid the large avenues packed with cars and ride along quiet side roads. Bicycles can be parked anywhere on the campus.

If you travel by train, then you have two solutions :

  1. take your bike with you on the train (4,4 € per journey or 7,4 € day return)
  2. rent a bike at the train station square in Namur (8 € per day)
